Hosta sieboldiana 'Elegans'
Plantain Lily
An old-timed favorite, 'Elegans' has large, heart-shaped, thick-textured, heavily corrugated, surface-cupped, blue-green leaves. In early summer, it produces strong, upright stems lined with white bell-shaped flowers tinged with lavender, tucked amongst the leaves. 'Elegans' is one of the most popular and time proven hostas, also known as Plantain Lily or Funkia, cultivated for over 75 years.
Additional:
The genus name Hosta is after the Austrian physician & botanist Nicholas Host (1761-1834).
Plantain Lily Growing and Maintenance Tips:
Most hostas prefer semi-shade, especially in the hot afternoon. 'Elegans' shows good slug resistance.
