Liatris spicata 'Kobold'
Blazing Star
This short form of Liatris spicata, also known as Blazing Star or Gayfeather, is a small, compact, upright perennial which typically grows about two feet tall. 'Kobold' features spikes of rounded, fluffy, deep purple flower heads appearing atop rigid, erect, leafy flower stalks. Multiple stalks arise from basal tufts of narrow, grass-like leaves and flowers generally open top to bottom on the spikes. 'Kobold' is compact in habit and especially useful in tubs or mixed containers. The blooms of 'Kobold' attract bees and butterflies and make excellent cut flowers.
Additional:
Liatris belongs to the aster family, with each flower head having only fluffy disk flowers, resembling "blazing stars", and no rays.
