Liatris spicata
Blazing Star
Liatris spicata, also known as Blazing Star or Gayfeather, is a tall, upright, clump-forming perennial featuring spikes of rounded, fluffy, deep purple flower heads appearing atop erect, leafy stalks. One or more stalks arise from a tuft of narrow, grass-like leaves. A Southern Missouri native that is drought tolerant, attracts butterflies and bees, and makes excellent cut flowers. See also Liatris spicata 'Kobold' which is a popular compact cultivar we also offer.
Additional:
Liatris belongs to the aster family, with each flower head having only fluffy disk flowers, resembling "blazing stars", and no rays.
