Delosperma cooperi
Ice Plant, Hardy
Masses of hot pink flowers, drought tolerance and vigorous growth are the hallmarks of Delosperma 'Cooperi'. This perennial is native to South Africa where it is commonly found growing in dry, poor soils. In early summer, 'Cooperi' is covered with bright pink daisy-like flowers until fall. The medium green foliage is succulent, cylindrical and covered with small flakes that resemble ice, hence the common name, ice plant. The semi-evergreen foliage develops good red fall color. Delosperma 'Cooperi' is a perfect plant for sunny slopes or rock gardens.
Ice Plant, Hardy Growing and Maintenance Tips:
In the St. Louis area, 'Cooperi' should be sited in sheltered locations and given winter protection as it is marginally hardy. Very drought tolerant and can be wintered indoors in a pot.
