Aconitum fischeri

Monkshood

Aconitum fischeri features thick leathery stems and glossy dark green foliage that is attractive even when the plant is not in bloom. Monkshood provides lavender blue hooded flowers late in the summer. Aconitum fischeri requires no staking for a striking addition to the garden. Do not plant near vegetable gardens as all parts of this plant are poisonous if eaten.

Additional:

Slow to emerge in the spring.

Monkshood Growing and Maintenance Tips:

Crowns may rot if soil is wet and temperatures are hot, but dry soil can stunt growth. Aconitums are highly resistant to diseases and pests, partially because they are poisonous. Mature Monkshood plants dislike disturbance once established, however, crowns may be divided in fall or early spring.
