Brunnera macrophylla 'Jack Frost'

Brunnera

Brunnera macrophylla 'Jack Frost' is a rhizomatous, clump-forming perennial that is primarily grown for its attractive foliage. Jack Frost’s leaves are dark green, but have a heavily frosted overlay which allows only the green veining to show through. The heart-shaped foliage remains attractive throughout the growing season.

Tiny, forget-me-not-like flowers (light blue with yellow centers) rise above the foliage on slender stems in spring. Very popular and easy-to-grow, Brunnera performs well in all but the driest of shady conditions. Excellent for the woodland garden. 'Jack Frost' handles more direct sun that most other variegated types of Brunnera, though in hot-summer regions some afternoon shade is recommended to prevent leaf scorch. Its hairy leaves give it a bit more resistance to slugs than other plants growing in moist, shady conditions.
